‘Linotopia’ is an album of dreamy, spatial guitar music in which electric and acoustic instruments, tone generators and the occasional field recording have been modified through dynamic, time and spatial processes to form fluid harmonic shapes and juddering rhythmic layers. This studio and production expertise is allied to a powerful melodic sensibility at the core of Philipson’s instinctive playing.

Inspiration for the album has been found in the former Linotype Works on the edge of the Manchester suburbs, Gaston Bachelard’s writing in ‘The Poetics of Space’, and the music of Vini Reilly, Manuel Göttsching, Conny Veit and Steve Reich amongst others.

Peter Philipson has been making sounds using guitars in his home city of Manchester for over 20 years and for the last six years has been playing guitar for Jane Weaver (Fire Records) on her two latest albums and live shows.
